Visitors flock to Kanpur Zoo as new zebras, wallabies, and macaws arrive from Jamnagar's Vantara
Kanpur Zoo has recently welcomed a new set of residents, with 10 animals arriving from the Vantara Animal Rescue, Conservation, and Rehabilitation Center in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The new arrivals include a pair of zebras, Jasmine and Jimmy, four wallabies, and two pairs of Scarlet macaws.
The animals were brought to the zoo by a 16-member team from Vantara. After undergoing health checks, the animals were relocated to their designated enclosures. The zebras have been placed in the enclosure that had been empty for over a year, while the wallabies are now housed behind the snake section. The macaws are settling into their new aviary, where they are adapting to their surroundings.
Rhinoceros Gauri prepares for exchange
Dr. Anurag Singh, the Chief Veterinary Officer, reassured that all the animals are in good health and are adjusting well to their new environment. Special care has been taken to ensure the zebras and wallabies are comfortable, including providing the zebras with a unique type of grass brought from Vantara. The macaws are also adjusting peacefully to their new home.
The team from Vantara has been staying in Kanpur, for the past two days to monitor the animals' adaptation. On Wednesday, the team will return to Vantara with rhinoceros Gauri, as part of an ongoing exchange programme.
The zoo sees surge in visitors with new animal arrivals
The arrival of these animals has sparked excitement among zoo visitors, many of whom are flocking to see the zebras, especially Jasmine and Jimmy, who have already become a major attraction.
