The drone won prizes in 3 categories at an online competition organised by the USA's National Institute of Standard & Technology.
A centre of quality research and exceptional innovations, IIT Kanpur has garnered international acclaim for a wide list of interesting projects. As per the latest developments, Drone Vibhram developed at the institute has won appreciation across multiple countries, including the USA, Israel, Australia, France, China, England and others. Reportedly, the drone received awards in three categories at an online competition organised by the National Institute of Standard and Technology in the USA.
Developed by a Ph.D. researcher and an M.Tech student
As per reports, the team behind the inception of this technological craft was congratulated by the Director of the institute, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, academics from the Aerospace Engineering Department and other faculty members. It has been reported that the drone was developed by Ramkrishna, a Ph.D. researcher and Chirag Jain, an M.Tech student under the supervision of Prof. Abhishek.
Low-cost technology and simple design
Besides having the capacity to operate at high speeds, this drone is also equipped to fly at high altitudes. Designed on the lines of a helicopter, the drone has special facilities for emergency and instant landings. Reportedly, Prof. Abhishek informed that the lightweight device has been developed using low-cost technology and a simple framework.
Under the aforementioned virtual event, the drone was tested for its different features. As a part of this, it was required to fly for 5 hours, carrying a 5-kilogram load. Thereby, the students prepared an hour-long video as the drone performed this activity and submitted it for the competition. Previously, the drone had proven its worth in a similar event that happened in February.
