100 AI cameras to monitor over-speeding on Lucknow's Ring Road by 2026; details

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is fast-tracking the installation of a Traffic Monitoring Camera System (TMCS) along Lucknow's 105-km Outer Ring Road, with completion targeted by March 2026. Around 100 cameras will enforce speed limits, 60 km/h for heavy vehicles and 80 km/h for light vehicles, by automatically issuing fines to violators.

Beyond traffic control, the system will boost security, helping police track stolen vehicles, hit-and-run cases, and criminal activities via a centralised control room linked to the police network. With 30,000 vehicles daily plying the route, the TMCS aims to curb reckless driving and reduce accidents.

Cable and optical fibre work is underway, while a dedicated police post, ambulance, and patrol units will be stationed near Mati for rapid response. The ring road, connecting key routes like Agra Expressway and Kanpur-Lucknow Highway, will also see improved maintenance by construction agencies for five years post-completion.
