In a span of five days, there has been a surge in the registered number of dengue cases in Lucknow. According to reports, the onset of the larvae-borne disease was first identified in August, which gradually escalated in September, raising alarms across the district. As per health officials, dengue cases account for about 70% of the total 300 viral fever and vector infections reported in Lucknow, as yet. Further, its toll has risen to 61 mortalities this season, adding to the state's concern.

It is estimated that due to a heavy rainstorm on September 16, there were various regions which faced a problem of waterlogging and that resulted in an 'Aedes' mosquito attack. It has also been reported that since many areas could not solve the issue of water accumulation immediately, dengue-inducing mosquitoes started breeding here, resulting in the case spike.

A number of people from areas like Balaganj, Triveni Nagar, Takrohi, Khadara, Para, Aashiana in the city are being tested positive through the ELISA test at Balrampur Hospital. Besides, several patients admitted here this month also hale from village regions, signalling a dengue attack in rural Lucknow as well.

Round-the-clock inspection drives are being organised in the affected areas of Faizullaganj, Alamnagar, Daliganj, Nirala Nagar and Aliganj. Reportedly, larvae of the 'Aedes Aegypti' mosquito has been detected in around 30 houses here.

The deadly mosquito breeds in places which store contaminated water like flower pots, broken objects, coolers, semi-constructed areas among other isolated or neglected areas. To combat the effects of the disease, residents of the targeted localities should keep a check on public sanitation and should be aware of the measures of dengue prevention.
