In a major push to India's defence capabilities, a state-of-the-art BrahMos missile manufacturing unit will be inaugurated in Lucknow on May 11 by the Defence Minister. The ₹300-crore facility, set up by BrahMos Aerospace, is part of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor, making a significant step towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

A major step towards India’s defence growth and job creation

The 9,000 sq. meter unit, developed in just 3.5 years, will produce 80-100 BrahMos missiles annually, one of the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missiles. The UP government provided 80 hectares of land free of cost, accelerating the project’s completion. The facility is expected to generate 500 direct jobs for engineers and technicians, along with thousand of indirect employment opportunities.

A joint venture between India's DRDO and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyeiya, BrahMos Aerospace symbolises strategic Indo-Russian collaboration. The missile, named after the Brahmaputra and Moskva rivers, is a cornerstone of India's defence arsenal.

The Lucknow node is part of UP's six-node Defence Industrial corridor, attracting major firms like Bharat Dynamics and Adani Defence. With 60% land already allotted, the project underscores India's push for defence indigenisation and regional security.
