Lucknow is poised for a transformative leap with the proposed State Capital Region (SCR) project, modelled on successful regions like Delhi-NCR and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). A comprehensive 380-page report has been submitted to the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), which will soon forward it to the state government for final approval.

Growth, connectivity, and green development

The plan covers 6 districts, Lucknow, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Barabanki, Hardoi, and Sitapur, with the goal of integrated development that strengthens the state capital while ensuring balanced growth in surrounding areas. Officials said the initiative is inspired by Delhi-NCR and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), combining residential, industrial, commercial, and green zones to put Lucknow on par with leading capital cities in India.

Key priorities include expanding the metro network to adjoining districts, widening highways, creating affordable housing, and setting up industrial zones and start-up hubs. The project also emphasises green initiatives like solar energy promotion and the conservation of the Gomti River. Public participation will be central, with the LDA planning to seek suggestions from citizens to shape this visionary project.
