All aboard: Airport vibes arrive at Lucknow’s newly launched Gomti Nagar Railway Station
Lucknow just got a railway station that looks a lot more like an airport. Gomti Nagar Railway Station has been completely revamped, and the transformation is hard to miss. Wide, spotless walkways, glass walls, escalators, and an air-conditioned concourse give it a modern, airy vibe that’s quite rare in Indian rail travel.
Redeveloped at a cost of ₹385 crore and inaugurated in February 2024, Gomti Nagar Railway Station is one of Lucknow’s busiest hubs, handling dozens of trains daily.
Modern design & passenger comfort
Thoughtful design makes it easier to navigate. Arrivals and departures are clearly separated, platforms are spacious, and corridors allow smooth passenger flow without the usual bottlenecks. Large windows fill the concourse with natural light, while food courts, multi-level parking, and seating lounges ensure convenience at every step.
Platforms host Vande Bharat trains, adding to the sleek, futuristic feel. Every corner of the station is intentional, making it a model for modern public infrastructure.
A privately-managed railway station
This station has also adopted a private facility management model. Core railway operations such as train movement, ticketing, and security remain under Indian Railways. Everything else, including maintenance, passenger services, and day-to-day facility management, is now handled by private players.
The viral video that turned heads
A video shared by Instagram user Aalimahaa Ali recently brought Gomti Nagar Railway Station into the spotlight. She rode down an escalator into the waiting area and captured the airport-like design, calling it “Airport vibes, railway ticket.” The clip quickly went viral.
Viewers praised the station as a model of development and even sparked conversations on civic responsibility, urging others to keep the space clean and well-maintained.
