Bhartendu Natya Academy to bring Manav Kaul’s 'Park' to life on May 26 in Lucknow

Director Shreyans Pal brings fresh nuance to Kaul’s work, highlighting character struggles.

Theatre lovers, save the date for May 26! The Bhartendu Natya Academy of Dramatic Arts is bringing you an enchanting play that promises to be a highlight of the season. At 7 PM, the academy will present Manav Kaul’s 'Park' at Valmiki Prekshgrih, Sangeet Natak Academy in Lucknow.

Directed by the talented Shreyans Pal and guided by the insightful Govind Singh Yadav, this performance will offer an interesting mix of humour and introspection.

The play offers a delightful take into space, ownership, and identity

'Park' offers a light-hearted yet profound exploration of space, ownership, and territory through the interactions of three men vying for the best bench in a park. As each character staunchly defends his claim, the ensuing squabble unravels deeper themes of identity and belonging, making audiences both laugh and ponder.

Manav Kaul, a multifaceted Indian theatre director, playwright, author, actor, and filmmaker, infuses "Park" with his signature style. Known for his theatre group Aranya, founded in 2004, Kaul draws inspiration from literary greats like Charles Bukowski, Vinod Kumar Shukla, and Nirmal Verma. His works often delve into themes of isolation, nostalgia, and rootlessness, as seen in his notable books such as Chalta Phirta Pret, Antima, and Bahut Door Kitna Door Hota Hai.

Director Shreyans Pal’s interpretation brings a fresh perspective to Kaul’s work, infusing it with nuanced performances that highlight the absurdity and relatability of the characters’ struggles.

Immerse yourself in the magic of live performance!

The Bhartendu Natya Academy’s staging of 'Park' promises to be a masterful blend of wit and wisdom, brought to life by a talented cast under expert direction. With its minimalist set of three benches, the play’s focus on character dynamics and societal commentary is sure to resonate deeply with the audience.
