Residents of Lucknow had been eagerly awaiting rainfall for the past few weeks as heat and humidity steadily rose. Today, the city was shrouded in dense cloud cover since morning, culminating in a severe thunderstorm and heavy rain.
While the rain brought relief from the heat, it also caused waterlogging in several areas of the city. Readers are advised to exercise caution and avoid heading outdoors, as driving and riding can be hazardous in these conditions.
Streets in Lucknow’s prominent Hazratganj area are filled with knee level water, making it hard for commuters to move.

A recent video from Hazratganj, shared on X, captures the severity of the thunderstorm, showing conditions so intense that buildings are obscured from view.
While the city welcomed the pleasant change in weather, which brought down temperatures, there is an urgent need for preparedness against such conditions. With more rainfall anticipated during the ongoing monsoon season, the city’s civic authorities must take measures to minimize waterlogging issues across Lucknow.
