Lucknow’s favourite food corner, the “Chatori Gali” is expected to make a return to the Samtamulak Chowk soon. Lucknow is surely a foodie’s paradise and this foodie’s street is expected to add to the never-ending charm of the city. The Samtamulak Chowk will once again be filled with aroma of char-grilled kebabs, steamed momos, fried pakoras, kathi rolls, biriyani, jalebi and much more.
What is the update?
Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) will soon bring back Gomti Nagar’s glorious Chatori Gali. The stretch from Samtamulak Chowk to Samajik Parivartan Sthal will be dedicated to food and is expected to be managed by a similar company that manages food-courts in shopping malls. The Facts
The ambitious ‘Chatori Gali’ was built in 2011 by the then government with an investment of ₹33 crores. Uttar Pradesh Tourism was responsible for the same, but due to some unknown reason the market did not fare well. The tenders were again floated in 2012 but the project could not be taken further due to unavailability of a suitable company.
Major food vendors of the city are expected to occupy the total of 10 stalls and several canopies. Several legendary outlets of Lucknow are also expected to have a place here.
Why is it important?
The ‘Chatori Gali’ project is expected to create tremendous opportunities for vendors and bring in more tourism. It is especially important to revamp the Chatori Gali as a hub for great food and happening music shows which will make the place more attractive for the young crowd.
The idea is to convert this stretch of street into something that speaks volumes about the city. Essentially every lane in Lucknow can be named the “chatori gali”, but this Chatori Gali will an embelem of the food, culture and lifestyle of the city.
Knock Knock
We cannot be more excited to have the street dedicated to food once again. Not only will the gali be a complete blessing for foodies like us but will also provide the tourists with a window to Lucknow’s culture. We are waiting for the food street to become operational soon and bring a smile on the faces of locals.
