UP's Shravasti declared COVID- free as district registers 0 active cases

Preparations to combat the probable third wave are underway.

Uttar Pradesh's Shravasti was recently in the limelight when the Chief Minister declared it COVID-free. As per the latest reports, no fresh cases of infection have been reported here and the tally of active cases has also been marked at zero. On Wednesday, the district administration of Shravasti was lauded by the apex authority for its efforts in checking the spread of COVID-19 and other cities were urged to emulate the example set by Shravasti.

How was the pandemic situation tackled?

Identified as an aspirational district, Shravasti's fight against the pandemic was not an easy task for the District Health Department. The district has a large migrant population that returned from metropolitan cities when the second swell started gripping the nation.

The medical officials focused on the migrant population and surveillance committees were constituted to collect information on them. Health teams were sent to collect samples and personnel deputed at the Integrated Command and Control Centre took regular feedbacks from patients in home isolation.

Following the 3T rule of testing, tracing and treating, also helped in curbing the spread. Emphasis was laid on conducting RT-PCR sample tests and rapid vaccination, especially among the rural population. Further, preparations to combat the probable third wave are underway as numerous PICUs have been set up and door-to-door surveys launched.

Caution to still be observed

Earlier, Mahoba was declared COVID-free but as per the latest data, it currently has one active case. In light of these developments, Shravasti, has become the only district in Uttar Pradesh to be COVID-free. A tweet sent by the official handle of the District Magistrate of Shravasti congratulated all officials and cautioned everyone not to inculcate a lackadaisical attitude while stepping out of their homes, for prevention is the best cure for safeguarding yourself from coronavirus.
