All set to revamp waste management in the city, this scheme is being executed at an approximate cost of ₹1.80 crores.

As a step towards sustainable development, Lucknow Municipal Corporation has decided to collect and recycle debris and waste materials from demolition sites in the city. Under this initiative, the civic body has planned to establish 8 collection centres across different parts of the district. After the collection of trash substances at these locations, a private agency will take them to the treatment plant for recycling purposes.

Based on the orders of Municipal Commissioner Ajay Dwivedi, the civic body has initiated the process of choosing and designating the private company for this project. In addition to this, the officials have also rolled out plans for setting up the treatment plant. It is expected that this plant would be ready for operations in the next 6 months. All set to revamp waste management in the city, this scheme is being executed at an approximate cost of ₹1.80 crores.

As per the current plans, a collection centre will be set up in each zone of the Municipal Corporation and the private firm will select the spot for these sites, in collaboration with the civic body. Once the debris is accumulated at the centre, it will be transported to the treatment plant, wherein different substances will be segregated first. Thereafter, specific interventions will be deployed for converting the waste into useful products.

90% of the debris to be recycled and reused

It has been informed that the upcoming treatment plant will have the capacity of dealing with about 100 tonnes of waste per day. While the officials have planned to recycle 90% of the total debris, 10% of leftover material will be taken to the dump site, which will be identified by the Municipal Corporation.

Given the changing scenario of modern times, such inventive initiatives have become the need of the hour. With the help of such measures, we can further fuel the pace of progress.
