Sri Lanka eyes North India tourism boom

Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath led a 35-member delegation, highlighting Sri Lanka’s post-pandemic revival. Between January and May 2025, Sri Lanka welcomed 10,29,803 tourists, of which 2,04,060 were from India, with Uttar Pradesh emerging as the top contributor.

The event, attended by 200+ travel agents, showcased Sri Lanka’s beaches, heritage, and luxury stays. A cultural Sabaragamu dance performance mesmerised attendees. Similar roadshows are planned for Chandigarh (June 25) and Jaipur (June 27) to boost tourism from North India.

With USD 1.54 billion earned in tourism this year, Sri Lanka aims to deepen ties with India, its top source market.
