Now pursue minor degrees, along with a major, at AKTU in Lucknow & affiliated tech colleges
Minor degrees, along with a major in B Tech, can now be pursued at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) and other affiliated technical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. In a first, students can take up numerous courses like Artificial Intelligence, Waste Technology and others, along with their major degree in Bachelors of Technology (B Tech).
10 minor courses have been introduced, including Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Waste Technology, Robotics, Green Technology and Sustainability Engineering, Energy Engineering, Internet of Things, Electronics Vehicles, Universal Human Value and Project Management.
Under the National Education Policy 2020, a minor degree will be granted along with a major degree for the first time. Each minor course will include one track of five subjects of additional 18-20 credits.
Students will be given the choice to opt for the same during the third semester (after completing two semesters) or at the time of registration of the fourth semester. The ones who opt for the same will have to complete the syllabus prescribed for the minor degree along with the syllabus for the parent branch. However, if the student is unable to complete the syllabus for the minor degree, it will have no effect on his/her major degree.
Students of all branches (except CSE and EC branches) can opt for minor courses like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science, and Internet of Things. While Green Technology and Sustainability Engineering can be pursued by students of all branches (except Civil and Chemical Engineering).
Students of all branches (except Chemical Engineering) are eligible to opt for Waste Technology, whereas, Energy Engineering can be taken up by students of all branches, except Mechanical Engineering.
All Students, besides Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, can opt for Robotics. Mechanical and Electrical Engineering students also cannot opt for Electric Vehicles.
However, students of all branches are eligible to pursue Universal Human Values and Project Management.
The minor courses will be taught by experts, and, in turn, create an environment for students to learn more. In order to diversify knowledge, engineering students can broaden their horizons and add to the general courses, thereby earning an edge.
