15 prominent crossings have been identified across Lucknow, including Atal Chowk, Kamta and Kapoorthala, among others.
Lucknow Police and the state government have come up with various initiatives such as Pink Booths, Pink Patrol and women help-desks, among others, to empower the women of the city. Adding to this list, to mark the occasion of International Women's Day, women police officers are leading from the front by taking charge of prominent crossings of the city and distributing flowers to female commuters.
Women police officers giving a new perspective to policing
For the purpose of policing and flower distribution today, 15 crossings have been identified in Lucknow, inclusive of Atal Chowk (Hazratganj), 1090 Chauraha, Gole Market, Polytechnic, Kamta (Shaheed Path) and Kapoorthala, among others.
Lucknow's Police Commissioner stated that this step has been taken to spread the message, that female police personnel work shoulder-to-shoulder with their male counterparts, thereby, performing the duties they are in charge of as a police officer and as an individual. It has been further mentioned that the presence of the unique Pink Patrol fleet and Pink Booths throughout the city has given a new perspective to policing in Lucknow.
Empowering women with Pink Booths, women help-desks & more
To facilitate the registration of complaints by women, women help-desks have also been set-up in all police stations where female complainants are attended by female staff. Also, the Pink Booths have been catering to female complainants who are hesitant to walk in a police station, as these booths have only female police officers.
The Pink Patrol fleet, flagged off by the Governor of UP under the Smart City Project, consists of 100 two-wheelers and 10 SUVs driven by woman cops. Further, under Mission Shakti, 112 UP is providing night escorts for which PRV Vans have been commissioned, among which 300 PRV Vans are run by female officers who are creating awareness among women by running various awareness programmes, read reports.
In a bid to ensure gender equality, Lucknow Police has taken up initiatives that empower female police officers as well as the female citizens of Lucknow and in doing so, they have created an example that needs to be emulated across the state.
