Khadi Festival & Silk Expo 2021 will be in place till October 30 at Indira Gandhi Pratisthan

Among the festivities of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in India, a series of programmes have found their ground across the country and the ongoing 15-day Khadi Festival and Silk Expo 2021 in Lucknow is part of the same. Taking place at the Indira Gandhi Pratishtran in Gomti Nagar, the event kickstarted on Saturday, October 16, and will continue until October 30. A one-stop shopping expo

Organised by the UP Khandi and Village Industries Board, the Khadi Festival and Silk Expo-21 in Lucknow centres more than 200 stalls, out of which 40 belong to the Silk Department. This expansive set-up showcases products and handicrafts from different districts in the state and otherwise, giving an elevated platform to young entrepreneurs to display their talents and skills.

Besides the khadi exclusive products, visitors may also find here, a plethora of swadeshi (indigenous) items at affordable rates. You can expect both quality and variety as you visit this one-of-kind exhibition in the city!

The display includes wooden utensils and carved furniture from Saharanpur, designer koti and sadri from the Clothing Village Industries of Dehradun, bed sheets and towels from Muzaffarnagar, pickles and murabbas all the way from the Sapna Village Industries in Pratapgarh and much more!

A range of women's apparel and accessories including Khadi sarees, shirts, kurta, pyjama, sadri and even jute coats are available at this expo. Various types of handbags, purses, belts, shoes, sandals from Kanpur's local leather cluster can also be found at this all-inclusive one-stop shopping expo.

The silk haven!

It is said that silk does for the body what diamonds do for hands and this exhibition is all the treat you need this year! An array of silk products, sarees and designer clothes, weaved in Mulberry, Tussar and Eri are showcased here. The star attraction, however, is a silk stall that puts out all the information about the elegant material.

Visitors can learn all about silk work culture or sericulture, to understand the entire process of how this beautiful piece of fabric comes into existence, through an engaging session here. Amid Omicron scare, India puts its plan to ​resume International Commercial air service on hold

Notably, India was about to resume commercial international passenger air services from December 15

According to the latest circular issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) India, the government of India has put its initial plan of reopening international commercial flights on hold. With the discovery of a new and more transmissible strain of COVID, the administration has stepped into action to prevent and eliminate the risk of transmission of this variant in the country. Notably, India was about to resume international passenger air services from December 15 after a gap of about twenty months, however this decision stands suspended in view of the current Omicron scare.

International flyers reaching Maharashtra to undergo mandatory quarantine; RT-PCR must for domestic travel

Amid the emergent concerns of the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus, the Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced a mandatory quarantine for all international travellers arriving in the state. The guidelines have been made more stringent for travellers flying from at-risk countries, with the imperative of institutional quarantine on arrival.

Travel protocols for domestic travel have also been revised, added reports. Now, all passengers flying within Maharashtra will either have to be fully vaccinated or produce a negative RT-PCR test on arrival, conducted within 48 hours of the time of arrival. On the other hand, people flying to Maharashtra from other Indian states also have to present the negative COVID report, irrespective of vaccination status.

Third train set for Kanpur Metro arrives in the city

Kanpur Metro is expected to start its commercial services by the end of this month

Adding to the existing fleet of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation, the third three-coach metro train set arrived in Kanpur yesterday. Reportedly, with the successful completion of the trials undertaken by the Research Design & Standard Organisation (RDSO), Kanpur Metro is expected to start its commercial services by the end of this month.
