Upcoming Ganga Expressway to reduce travel time between Lucknow & Meerut to 5 hours!

In a bid to foster improved road connectivity in the state, the Uttar Pradesh administration is working on plans to establish Ganga Expressway linking Prayagraj and Meerut. Once it is operational, the travel time between Meerut and Lucknow will be reduced to 5 hours and the journey from Meerut to Prayagara would be covered in 6.5 hours. Reportedly, cars would be allowed to run at a speed of 120 Km/hr on the upcoming expressway.

594-km long expressway to have 6 lines initially

As per reports, UP CM has stated that the planned expressway will become the backbone of the state's economy, connecting east to the west. Reportedly, the greenfield expressway will extend over a length of 594 km and will have a total of six lanes initially. Proposed to be built at an approximate cost of ₹36,000 crores, the road would be expandable to eight lanes.

According to reports, the expressway will help the citizens of Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahar, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rai Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj with a better road network. Reportedly, the CM informed that more than 90% of the work related to land acquisition has been finished. Further, reports state that PNB bank has sanctioned a sum of ₹5,100 for the project, in the name of Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA).

It has been reported that UPEIDA will repay the aforesaid amount to PNB within a period of 15 years, through toll collection. During this period, the expressways development authority will look after the management and upkeep of the new facility. It is noteworthy that the Ganga Expressway will be the second-longest road of its kind in the country.
