Get 'named or shamed': Strict action to be taken against govt vehicles parked in no-parking zones

Here are the 11 major areas of Lucknow that have been declared as 'no parking zones' from today.

Any vehicle wrongfully parked in the city will see action taken against it, said the latest directive, especially VVIP vehicles. As per a new measure by Lucknow Police, 'naming or shaming' of VVIP and government vehicles will be the new way forward in order to discourage them from parking at no-parking zones.

Strict action will be taken against all law-breakers, said Joint Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Upendra Agarwal. They will have to pay both challan and crane-lifting charges. He expressed that it was seen, more often than not, that government vehicles were the defaulters, as observed by the police.

Cranes will have proper cameras to tow VVIP vehicles

"We will publicise the government vehicles found parked on the no parking zone of these 11 road stretches and will also write to the department concerned to which the vehicle belongs to," the officer said.

A 5-minute warning will be given to the wrongfully-parked vehicle and if no action is taken by the driver/owner in the time frame, they will have to pay both crane charges and challan (₹1,100 for four-wheelers). However, if they pay heed before the crane tows the vehicle, the owner will only have to pay ₹500 e-challan.

Traffic police has arranged for cranes which will be used to tow these vehicles. The same will be managed and administered by the Traffic Police department. The deployed policemen will also remain connected to the control room, from where monitoring of these areas will regularly be done. Up until now, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) used to tow vehicles outsourced to private companies.

"These cranes will have proper cameras and will ensure no harm is caused to the vehicle and also a proper picture is clicked of the place from where it is lifted," he added.

Moreover, schools have been instructed to arrange parking spaces inside their premises. If not followed, school buses, vans, etc, parked on roads will also be challaned.
