While the City of Nawabs is increasingly gaining popularity among content creators across all spectrums, it sure is a hot favourite of several OTT movies and shows.

With new content flooding these platforms every day, there are plenty of chances when the narrow streets of the city might have failed to catch your attention but not anymore. Here is a list of 7 web series and movies that were shot in Lucknow, that must be on the watch-list of each Lakhnawi!

Paglait

Paglait is a recent Netflix film that has a refreshing take on death and its nuances, especially in a joint family. The plot of this social drama keeps one grounded as it takes you to explore the beauty of Lucknow, in a rather subtle way. The screenplay shuttles from old Lucknow lanes to Hazratganj, Residency and even Gomti Nagar, in a rather seamless way - taking you on a Lucknow darshan, right from your TV lounge.

Khuda Hafiz

Khuda Hafiz was developed as a silver screen movie that found an audience on Disney+ Hotstar. This movie has a larger-than-life plot that sets pace from Lucknow. A true representation of the city's hybrid culture and homogenous love , this movie takes you through Lucknow's lanes in the major part of the first half and while watching it, you'll quite rightly feel that you are in the City of Nawabs.

A Suitable Boy

This BBC adaptation of Vikram Seth's book by the same name, explores the alleys and streets of Lucknow to narrate a monumental account of love, family and political tensions of the partition-struck India in 1947. Important scenes of this drama were also shot in the yellow Kapoor family house, KGMU and La Martiniere College. Several other city mosques and minarets were also used as a backdrop, that added their own authenticity to this tale.

Love JAction

A show completely based in Lucknow, where the city acts as major progressor of the plot, Love JAction is a romantic drama that is tainted with bureaucracy and politics. Each frame of this web series has been shot in the city, which truly makes it as interesting as the city.

Taj Mahal 1989

A Netflix original that stitches period, politics and poetry, Taj Mahal 1989 takes you through a series of events and characters based in and around Lucknow University, in 1989. If you are a LU alumnus or a student, this web series is gonna hit different, trust us! The web series runs for 7 episode to cover the life of 4 couples who are seeking their definition of love and it is truly a must-watch.

Gulabo Sitabo

The attar battar and khattar pattar of this movie made a resounding mark with its audience and critics throughout. The dramatic story of a peculiar man, his impossible tenant and a dilapidated mansion, will introduce you to Lucknow in a way you will never forget. The plot will make you realise that the city has a lot to teach, however, there are hardly ever straight answers found.

Gunjan Saxena- The Kargil Girl

The biopic on Gunjan Saxena, the IAF pilot who became the first woman to be awarded the Shaurya Chakra, is a Dharma Production's movie that was shot extensively in Lucknow. This movie takes off to soaring heights from the narrow lanes of Lucknow and surely deserves your attention, if you are a Bollywood cinephile!

Knock Knock

While some stories have caught the essence and quirks of the city, others have depicted its enchanting beauty. However, if there is one thing that remains constant in all these, is the fact that Lucknow sure has played a charming role through and through. It develops as a new landscape in each plot, as a unique character in each scene and truly deserves all the praise!
