Lucknow News | Effective immediately, LDA bans flowerpots on balconies, railings & parapets
Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has issued a citywide ban on placing flowerpots and planters on balconies, parapet walls and railings of residential buildings. The directive is effective immediately, and notices are now being served to residents, builders and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs). The move follows a tragic incident in Pune earlier this month, where a high-rise flowerpot fell on a child. LDA officials stated that even a minor oversight, such as an unsecured planter, can lead to fatal accidents, especially during strong winds.
Accountability for violations
Joint Secretary C.P. Tripathi confirmed that flat owners, RWA officials and builders will be held accountable for violations. Legal action will be taken against anyone found flouting the order. Meanwhile, RWAs have been instructed to inform residents via WhatsApp groups, notice boards and in-person communication. In housing societies without active RWAs, builders must ensure compliance.
In light of the ban, residents are being advised to switch to safer options, such as wall-mounted or indoor planters, to continue their gardening practices without compromising public safety.
