Lucknow Zoo’s winter survival plan
Heaters everywhere: The snake house, owl house, lion and white tiger enclosures, as well as the fish tank and monkey enclosures, are now equipped with heaters. Even the chimpanzees are being kept cosy with warm blankets.
More food: As temperatures dip, the animals need more fuel to stay warm. Ostriches, yellow macaws, lion-tail monkeys, chimpanzees, and emus are receiving eggs, while herbivores are enjoying more seasonal greens, fruits, legumes, and fresh forage.
Cosy beds: Straw, grass and wooden planks have been added to make the ground more comfortable for the animals.
More sunshine: Some enclosures need a bit of sunshine to help the animals stay strong this season. So, tree branches have been trimmed, ensuring the animals get plenty of rays, even during the chilly winter months.
Aquatic Care: Crocodiles, gharials, and hippos are not left out. The zoo is circulating fresh water in their enclosures to keep them warm and happy.
A team of veterinarians and keepers are on hand to monitor and make sure that the animals stay healthy and strong.
