The Uttar Pradesh Education Department has issued guidelines to promote all students of classes 9 and 11 to higher standards on the basis of annual examination results. The order further lists that internal assessments such as tests and projects will be used as evaluating material if schools have not conducted the term-end exams. If such exams, tests or assessments have not taken place through the year, then students will be generally promoted to the successive standard.
Students of classes 6 to 8 to be promoted directly
The District School Inspector, Dr Mukesh Kumar Singh confirmed that under the ambit of the Education Department orders, students of junior classes, standards 6th to 9th will be directly sent to the progressive grade, irrespective of exams. However, a conditioned protocol has been established to evaluate the promotion of students in classes 9 and 11 in Lucknow, Kanpur and other districts in UP.
The order of preference for promotion has been categorised as annual exam results and internal marks in case of no exams. General promotion instructions will be followed if no assessments have been conducted. These instructions will be imposed on all schools, under all boards.
However, if any board or education council has specially made rules, those shall hold ground over the state order, read reports. The state has also tasked the district level committees to look after any complaint regarding the prescribed procedures, for standards 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11. Earlier, a basic promotion order was also issued for all first-year UG and PG students in all universities across the state.
