In pics | Lucknow’s Raj Bhavan gets a new skating rink; 70 young skaters enrolled as yet

A new skating rink has been launched for children near Gate No. 14 of Lucknow's Raj Bhawan, transforming what was once a garbage-laden area into a vibrant space for sports and recreation. The rink was inaugurated on Monday, February 17, in the presence of UP State Governor, Anandiben Patel, Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, Lucknow Municipal Commissioner Indrajeet Singh and other dignitaries.Reportedly, a total of 24 young skaters showcased their skills during the inauguration ceremony.

So far, a total of 70 young skaters have enrolled in the skating rink, including students from the Upper Primary School at Raj Bhavan. The facility will also be accessible to students from various schools, with expert trainers providing skating lessons. Private school authorities will need to coordinate with Raj Bhavan officials for student enrollment.

Additionally, the authorities have decided to include underprivileged students, offering them a platform to develop their sporting abilities through this initiative.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Uttar Pradesh Governor announced plans to construct at least ten more skating rinks across Lucknow. These rinks will be developed in prominent city parks and Lucknow University, ensuring greater accessibility for children from different areas.

Currently, Lucknow has only one public skating rink, located in Janeshwar Mishra Park. The Governor emphasised that the government will work on introducing more initiatives that promote sports and physical activities for both children and adults.
