Indian Tourist Statistics 2020, announce Uttar Pradesh as the top tourist destination in 2019

UP bags the first rank as the domestic tourist magnet and the third for foreign footfall in 2019

Uttar Pradesh scales up to the top rank position for attracting the highest number of domestic tourists in 2019 with a share of 23.1% travellers visiting the state. The state has also acquired the third position for bringing in the influx of foreign tourists with a record footfall of approximately 47 lakh foreigners visiting last year.

Maximising the effect of its tagline, UP nahi dekha, toh India nahi dekha, the state tourism department has managed to captivate the largest share of travellers visiting the state. According to the data revealed by the ITS 2020, around 53.6 crore domestic tourists visited Uttar Pradesh in 2019, much higher in comparison to the tourist footfall in 2018 when the state had got the second position after Tamil Nadu.

According to Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture, the new efforts exercised by the Chief Minister in promoting tourism are now yielding conferring results. He said that the CM highlighted the tremendous tourism potential of Uttar Pradesh that has several places of religious, cultural and historical importance. The state also has several wildlife sanctuaries, he added.

Besides this, the state government has classified tourism in Uttar Pradesh based on the identification of various circuits. These include the Ramayana circuit, Braj circuit, Mahabharat circuit, Shaktipeeth circuit, Adhyatmik circuit, Jain circuit and Buddhist circuit, that automatically attract foreign as well as domestic tourists by gratification intent. The Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture said that special importance was being given to upgrading tourist places falling in these circuits such as developing the infrastructure and lodging capacities in such tourist hubs.
