The Uttar Pradesh Human Rights Commission has instructed to inoculate prison inmates across different cities in the state.

In order to make sure that all residents in the state are brought under the cover of COVID vaccination, the Uttar Pradesh Human Rights Commission has instructed to inoculate prison inmates across different cities of the state. In this regard, directives have already been issued by the concerned authorities. Given the fear of an impending hike in COVID numbers, this initiative attempts to dissipate the chances of the virus spread in jail campuses across the state.

Report on the count of inoculated prisoners to be furnished within 4 weeks

The human rights commission has asked for a detailed report about the vaccination of individuals housed in the jails within 4 weeks. Through this draft, the authorities are required to inform about the count of prison dwellers who have been administered vaccine jabs during the first two phases of immunisation. As a part of the current round, individuals over the age of 60 and those between 45 and 60 with co-morbidity(s) shall be eligible to avail of the benefits of vaccination schedules.

The Human Rights authority has also mandated that prison officers must ensure that the number of inmates does not exceed the authorised capacity of a jail. With these orders, officials in Uttar Pradesh attempt to safeguard the prisoners and the jail staff against the deadly coronavirus.

Lucknow amps up its COVID vaccination drives

Reportedly, COVID vaccine jabs were administered to around 12,000 beneficiaries in Lucknow, across a total of 122 inoculation centres on Monday. As per reports, the city witnessed maximum turnout on March 5, when 14,238 individuals flocked to around 65 vaccination sites.
