Creating happy empowered children, especially girls, through education - Sarthak Foundation Lucknow
In a world where education remains an unattainable dream for millions of children, Sarthak Foundation, headquartered in Lucknow, serves as a beacon of hope across Uttar Pradesh. Founded on the unwavering belief that every child deserves access to quality education, Sarthak has been dedicated to transforming the lives of underprivileged children, particularly young girls. Through its immersive, long-term interventions, the foundation has empowered thousands, ensuring they receive the education and support needed to break free from the cycle of poverty.
Concurrently, as we celebrate the remarkable achievements of women on this Women's Day, we are reminded of the powerful role education plays in empowering them -- a mission that Sarthak Foundation passionately upholds. Led by Kshama Hastak, a woman committed to driving change, the foundation has been at the forefront of transforming the lives of countless children.
Sarthak Foundation: The Power of Yellow Rooms
At the core of Sarthak's mission is Yellow Rooms, the foundation's flagship initiative, which provides safe, nurturing learning spaces within marginalised communities. These vibrant classrooms go beyond traditional schooling, offering academic support, social-emotional development, digital literacy, and life skills training. By bridging the gap between education and empowerment, Yellow Rooms has played a pivotal role in ensuring that girls not only attend school but also thrive, unlocking opportunities for a brighter future.
Additionally, Sarthak Foundation's deep, long-term interventions have transformed communities by ensuring nearly zero school dropouts, preventing early marriages, and empowering first-generation girls to complete schooling and pursue careers. By improving education and economic opportunities, the foundation drives generational shifts in marginalised communities, staying true to its vision of creating “Happy, empowered children.”
Extending the Yellow Rooms model to government schools is Sarthak Yellow SLATEs initiative, representing Sciences, Languages, Arts, Theatre, and Ethics. The SLATEs project functions as a mini Yellow Room, enhancing classroom learning through interactive teaching methods, remedial support, and holistic development. Operational across 13 government schools in Shahjahanpur and Barabanki, SLATEs strengthens foundational learning and retention.
Moreover, Sarthak Gurukul, located in Sonari Village, Sitapur, is a formal rural school inspired by the Yellow Rooms model. It provides structured education and a nurturing environment to children from 90 villages, ensuring learning opportunities for those with limited access to quality schooling.
Through these initiatives, Sarthak impacts over 11,000 children, 56% of whom are girls, at risk of dropping out due to socio-economic challenges.
A Cycle of Education, Empowerment, and Employment
Sarthak Foundation takes a holistic approach to education, ensuring that once the children enter the classroom, they receive comprehensive support to complete their schooling and higher education. The students are also assisted with internship and employment resources, which empower them to build self-sustainable and successful futures.
A notable achievement is that 54 Sarthak students are currently pursuing graduation and seeking financial aid and CSR collaborations to further their academic journeys. You can make a difference by sponsoring the education of these students and contributing to the ongoing GIVE India Campaign or their website directly.
The Heart Behind Sarthak Foundation
At the heart of Sarthak Foundation is its founder, Kshama Hastak, whose unwavering dedication to transforming lives is truly inspiring. With limited resources, she began her journey in 2013, teaching just 5-6 children under a tree. What started as a small initiative has now grown into a structured, data-driven, and well-managed non-profit with 209 employees, directly impacting 11,000 children and benefiting 44,000 individuals indirectly.
