In order to enhance security measures and address structural integrity concerns pertaining to buildings exceeding a height of 15 meters and consisting of 4 storeys or more, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has introduced a revised Structural Audit (SA) policy. The primary objective of this initiative is to bolster the overall safety and stability of such buildings within the jurisdiction of the Lucknow city.
The updated SA policy was formally announced on Wednesday during the 177th meeting of the Authority Board. The meeting was attended by esteemed officials including Rosah Jacob, the Divisional Commissioner of Lucknow, Indramani Tripathi, the Vice-Chairman of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) and other key officials.
SA policy audit to be mandatorily conducted once every 5 years
As per the provisions outlined in the policy, structural audits will be conducted at a frequency of once every 5 years for buildings falling within the specified criteria.
To facilitate the implementation of the SA policy, LDA will establish a panel of experts comprising professionals from prestigious institutions such as the IITs, NITs, Central Universities and renowned structural consulting firms.
Comprehensive assessment of various aspects will be done under the SA policy for buildings
The LDA VC has further elaborated that the SA policy will encompass a comprehensive assessment of various aspects of buildings’ structural integrity. This includes an examination of the strength and stability of columns, beams, pillars, iron bars, plasterwork, as well as the inspection of sewage and discharge systems, water pipelines and other related components. It is mandatory for these elements to undergo auditing every five years as per the SA policy.
By proactively addressing potential structural vulnerabilities in taller buildings, the authority aims to mitigate the risks associated with structural failures and contribute to the overall resilience of such structures.
