After bagging the first place as the cleanest city of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow had doubled up its efforts for the Swachh Survekshan 2021. In the first leg of the sixth edition of the annual cleanliness survey- Lucknow Municipal Corporation has received a new fleet of garbage collection trucks that align perfectly with the purpose of the year’s theme of segregation, with separate compartments for dry, wet and toxic waste.
Lucknow Prepares for Swachh Survekshan 2021
The LMC green flagged the new fleet of garbage collection trucks in an inauguratory event at the Lohia Path in Lucknow. Besides a lane full of the new fleet, banners and standees were also put to relay the role of the garbage vans to the people passing by. These trucks would be employed to collect domestic waste in the city and the district municipal body has modelled a plan to ensure these trucks reach the people so that they can easily dispose off their everyday homely waste. These new trucks are specially designed to have three compartments for dry, wet and hazardous waste respectively, uncomplicating the segregation process later.
This step becomes Lucknow’s first attempt at fulfilling one of the major 6 judging and performance criteria of the survey which include:
- segregation of waste into wet, dry and hazard categories
- processing capacity against wet waste generated
- processing and recycling of wet and dry waste
- construction & demolition (C&D) waste processing
- percentage of waste going to landfills
- sanitation status of cities.
