Lucknow Airport set to resume 24-hour flight ops from Aug 16 | Details
Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, after five and a half months of extensive renovations, is all set to resume 24-hour flight operations from August 16. The upgrades include the re-carpeting of the 2,744-meter runway, the construction of new taxiways, and the replacement of halogen lighting with energy-efficient LED lights.
These improvements are designed to enhance safety, streamline aircraft movement, and reduce energy consumption, setting the stage for smoother, more efficient travel.
Upgraded runway, new taxiways & more
The fresh re-carpeting of the 2,744-meter runway at Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport will enhance safety, particularly during dense fog and bad weather, although the runway’s length remains unchanged, which may still delay the landing of large cargo planes. The upgrade includes an additional 7.5 meters of shoulder on each side, while the airport’s Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) system has been switched from halogen to energy-efficient LED lights, cutting electricity usage by 50%.
New taxiways, including the P-9 and a 110-meter parallel link, will streamline aircraft movement, facilitating more flights, especially during peak hours. Initially, flight operations were limited from 10 AM to 6 PM (March 1–July 15), leading to delays and cancellations. Following an intervention by UP Chief Minister, the restriction was reduced to just four hours (11 AM–3 PM), and the deadline was extended to August 15. With all work set to be completed, 24-hour flight operations will resume from August 16, boosting capacity and efficiency.
New infrastructure to double capacity
With the upgrades now complete, Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport is set to handle over 132 daily flights, serving nearly 20,000 passengers. The new infrastructure will significantly improve operations.
Further expansion plans include the renovation of Terminal 1 and 2, which, once connected with Terminal 3, will double the airport’s capacity and elevate the passenger experience. Full flight operations will resume this weekend, promising a smoother travel experience for all.
