Lucknow AQI inches past 170 as the city feels a dip in temperature
Lucknow's air quality is in for a bad spin as temperatures begin to dip, with the effects already starting to show. Today, the city's average AQI stood at 175, the highest recorded in October this year, after readings hovered close to the 170 mark over the past week. The weather remains pleasant, with sunny afternoons; however, a slight chill is now noticeable during the early morning and late-night hours, with minimum temperatures regularly dipping below 20°C.
Hazratganj, Talkatora AQI Crosses 270 Mark
The changing weather conditions can therefore contribute to atmospheric stability and reduced vertical mixing, trapping pollutants closer to the ground and potentially worsening air quality across the city.
Furthermore, in areas including Hazratganj and Talkatora, the AQI has crossed the 270 mark today, falling in the 'Very Unhealthy' category.
City braces for a possible Post-Diwali pollution spike
With temperatures expected to fluctuate in the coming days, Lucknow's air quality remains a concern as the city heads towards Diwali. The concern is particularly relevant during the festive period, when firecracker emissions, increased traffic and other local sources of pollution can add to the existing particulate load.
