Lucknow COVID wards reactivated on Sunday amid sudden case spike

COVID alarms ring in Lucknow as 16 test positive in the last 48 hours

Amid the increasing threat of the Omicron variant of coronavirus, Lucknow's share of fresh cases has raised alarms in the district once again. Notably, the health department has reopened all COVID wards in the city as of Sunday, to ensure medical guard against the virus resurgence. In wake of the same, the district administration has cancelled the leaves of doctors, administrative officials and employees in a bid to tackle the emergent spike. Lucknow has reportedly clocked in 16 new infections in the last 48 hours, pushing the active tally to 43 cases, as yet.

Lucknow COVID cases on Saturday rose to a 135-day high with 13 new infections, following which a district meeting called upon the negation of leaves of medical and administrative staff. Chaired by DM Abhishek Prakash, this review also ordained all government-run and aided medical centres to reopen their coronavirus dedicated wards from Sunday. The Lucknow CMO associated of the health department and other senior officers also attended this meeting.

The District Magistrate informed that the integrated command and control centre will now remain activated 24x7, to tackle emergencies. Besides, the number of rapid response and surveillance teams will be doubled to increase contact tracing, he added.

City to get 'Red' & Mini Containment Zones

Meanwhile, areas that have reported most cases will be marked as 'red zones' across Lucknow. Patient's houses, on the other hand, will be designated as containment zones, the DM stated. All other precautionary measures, such as increased sanitisation will be ramped. LMC officials have been tasked to run cleanliness drives for the same.
