Lucknow could be among the biggest winners if the proposed Delhi-Varanasi bullet train corridor moves ahead, potentially cutting travel time to Delhi to around two hours. The bullet train corridor is set to connect Delhi with Varanasi via Noida (Jewar), Agra, Lucknow and Prayagraj, sharply cutting travel time across Uttar Pradesh. Varanasi could be reached from Delhi in four hours, while journeys within the state may also become much quicker, with Prayagraj to Lucknow estimated at 55 minutes and Prayagraj to Varanasi at around 30 minutes.
Lucknow station locations under consideration
As planning for the 865-km corridor gathers pace, officials are also examining possible station locations in Lucknow. Areas currently under consideration include Kisan Path Expressway, Vrindavan Yojana, Ekana Stadium and the Gomti Riverfront.
Wider UP connectivity set for a major boost
Beyond Lucknow, the corridor is expected to transform travel across the state. Officials believe the project could support tourism, business travel and regional development by cutting journey times between major cities and making long-distance rail travel far more efficient.
The route will pass through several important districts, linking Delhi to Varanasi through some of Uttar Pradesh’s significant economic hubs.
Bullet Train Project still at an early stage
Although no construction timeline has been announced so far, the project has moved ahead following the completion of the detailed project report (DPR).
The project will also require land acquisition across multiple districts, including Lucknow, Prayagraj, Rae Bareli, Agra, Mathura, Etawah, Bhadohi and Varanasi. Officials said the process will be carried out under NHSRCL guidelines, with compensation to be provided to affected landowners and farmers.
