This is being done to secure the bridges & flyovers, in order to make them safe for commuters
The Public Works Department has decided to upgrade the safety on some major roads in Lucknow, in order to avert accidents. As per reports, the PWD has shortlisted 7 flyovers and overbridges in town for the same and now aims to install iron nets and plastic sheets here to prevent any mishaps. The additional fittings will prevent vehicles from tumbling and skidding, ensuring a convenient and safe commute for all, added reports.
Making Lucknow's overhead roads safe for commuters
The PWD has decided to implement safety measures across 7 major overbridges in Lucknow, including the road from Setu Corporation to Kukrail, Malhaur ROB, Amausi Flyover, Gwari Overbridge, Mawaiya Flyover and RDSO road and Sahara overbridge. Reportedly, the listed stretches will also be fitted with radium strips and sign boards-stickers to relay better night visibility here.
PK Pandey, Chief Project Manager of Setu Nigam, informed that while such safety measures are present at Gomtinagar Pickup, Mall Avenue, Purnia, Daliganj, Engineering College, Charak, Naka Hindola, Mina Bakery flyover, most of the other flyovers and overbridges in the city do not have them. As such, these roads are unequipped to prevent fatal accidents caused due to tumbling, skidding, hence are unsafe for people. The plan of action will further extend to elevate the road railing with raised meshes to prevent road accidents caused due to the kite-strings, informed officials.
Move to be benefit commuters especially during the winter season
A lot of accidents take place due to reduced visibility and fog during the winter season. While the fog is something that cannot be done away with, ensuring that highways and overbridges are well-equipped to avert mishaps, can significantly help in reducing the amount of damage.
