Railway stations will be converted into encroachment-free zones where proper management systems for electric and plastic waste will be introduced.
Lucknow Junction & Badshah Nagar railway stations are amongst the seven centres to be transformed into eco-smart facilities. As per reports, the National Green Tribunal has identified these places and now, the railway authorities will revamp the stations in line with pollution control and environment-friendly measures. This, in turn, will usher new amenities for the passengers besides aiding the progress towards the sustainable development goals.
Plans to be based on directives given by NGT
Reportedly, the DRM of Lucknow Zone of North Eastern Railways informed that works have been initiated based on the directives given by NGT. Under the first plan of action, water samples have been collected from these stations for detailed investigation. Besides, the officials are also conducting regular checks for the quality of meals available here. Once the proposed interventions are completed, both stations will receive significant facelifts.
Multiple measures to ensure complete facelifts for the two centres
As per the upcoming plans, the railway stations will be converted into encroachment-free zones and proper management systems for electric and plastic waste will be introduced. While specific measures are being undertaken to clear the garbage on the tracks, the authorities are also working on plantation drives near the facilities. Notably, reports state that solar panels have been installed at the Lucknow Junction station and LED lights will be introduced soon.
Reportedly, a rainwater harvesting plant with a capacity of 5 lakh litres has been built at the Aishbagh Coaching Depot. With this initiative, nearly 80% of the accumulated water is stored and treated for recycling purposes. It is expected that similar measures will also be executed at the railway stations.
