Lucknow metro was flagged off for the public on Saturday, March 09 and it was received very well by the citizens. The inauguration of the complete North-South corridor was highly anticipated and people flocked to take a ride around the city in the metro. New reports that have emerged suggesting that Lucknowites are truly happy with the metro and it is all set to become the lifeline of the city.

As per the reports, it was revealed that over 1.3 lakh commuters rode the metro on the first weekend. The North-South route of the metro was only partially functional and was widely used by the public, but with the opening of the complete metro route, the appeal of the intra rail metro has increased among the residents. In comparison to the Lucknow metro, Delhi Metro registered a footfall of 45,000 in its inaugural run in 2002!
Of the over 1.3 lakh footfall, the most tickets were sold at Hazratganj- approximately 9,500, while Munshipuliya saw the second highest sale of tickets at 8,865 on Saturday and Sunday. The passengers were ferried across the city in 19 trains which made over 250 rounds from 6 am to 10 pm. By the year 2020, the LMRC aims to see a footfall of over a lakh passengers everyday.

The metro has come as a boon to residents of the city because of the added connectivity it brings. With the metro, areas such as Hazratganj, Lucknow University and other centrally located places have been brought closer to residents of the city.
To celebrate the first run of the complete metro system, travellers woke up early and were at the station gates as early as 5:45 am. Of the travellers, many were students who took a ride to get acquainted with the metro route and figure out timings and fares.
At its core, the goal of Lucknow metro is to connect the city better and it certainly seems to be accomplishing that. Not only is it a boon for students, but also for office goers and working class. Lucknow metro’s points towards a developing society and one that strives to excel in the coming future.
