Lucknow Metro's East-West Corridor construction to begin by March 2026
The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) is set to commence construction of Lucknow Metro’s East-West corridor by March 2026. Spanning 11.2 km, the new line was approved on August 12, 2025 and is expected to take roughly five years to complete. It will pass through some of the city’s busiest and most congested areas.
Advanced technology for faster & efficient construction
The new corridor will initially operate with three-coach trains, scalable to five coaches as demand grows, based on commuter usage forecasts. To speed up construction and reduce the on-site footprint:
Four Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) will be deployed, with designated entry and exit points.
Further, pre-cast structures will be used to minimise on-site construction time and space.
Complex underground work extends timeline
Although the East-West corridor is shorter than the 23 km North-South line, it is more technically challenging. The project includes seven underground stations located in densely populated areas. Construction involves careful tunnelling, utility shifting, structural reinforcement, and stringent safety protocols, contributing to the longer five-year completion timeframe.
