In a bid to develop smart emergency-assistance systems in Lucknow, new panic buttons will be installed at several intersections in Lucknow. These panic buttons will also be positioned near the ‘Pink Toilets’ in the city, which are being developed under the ‘Smart City Mission’. Prominent areas in Lucknow, such as Hazratganj, Gomti Nagar, Indira Nagar and Alambagh will get the panic-buttons first, read reports.
Towards a smarter and safer Lucknow
Lucknow Police Commissionerate has decided to install public panic buttons at traffic poles which can be used in avenues of accidents, health issues, theft and other crime while establishing a system to boost women safety. As per reports, any person who encounters the aforementioned emergencies can press this button which will alert smart Control and Command Centres, deploying rapid and immediate assistance to the public. Similar panic buttons are already functional in UP’s Agra district and Delhi NCR.
New technology to aid security for women
Lucknow city will also receive smart, face-recognition cameras to boost women security in the city. These cameras will be backed by artificial intelligence to read the expression of women in distress and alert the nearest police station. This new technology is being augmented under the state’s Mission Shakti Campaign. It is designed to benefit women who battle the troubles of eve-teasing and molestation on roads.

Such new technologies are stepping stone to realise Lucknow’s vision to become a smart city, developing the idea of a safe-neighbourhood. Linking intelligence to administration, Lucknow Police will also be able to counter several civic vices, keeping its people and their safety in check.
