The increasing pace of urbanisation in Lucknow has led to a reduction in the city’s green cover, causing numerous adverse effects on the environment. This has further contributed to the rise in summer temperatures, which was evident this year. Now, to address these problems, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has decided to transform a 100-acre land parcel into a Miyawaki forest.
The land, situated between villages Jiyamau and Ujariaon, near Gomti Nagar, had been subject to illegal encroachments and misuse as a dumping ground. LDA will now employ the Miyawaki method to transform this area into a thriving forest.
The decision was made by LDA Vice Chairman Indramani Tripathi during a board meeting held on Friday. LDA will collaborate with the Forest Department to create the forest and ensure groundwater conservation throughout the project. This forest is expected to benefit Gomti Nagar and its extension area.
