17 yo boys from Lucknow develops app to detect early cataract

Hailing from Lucknow, 17 yo Eshaan Vasanthkumar has developed an AI-based app ‘Roshini’ that detects cataract in early stages. This class 12 student from Study Hall School, along with National Health Mission and India Health Action Trust worked for a year to assemble Roshini. 

Roshini is a user-friendly app and is available to both public and frontline health workers who will assist rural communities of Varanasi, Fatehpur and Hapur with primary cataract screening. Its goal is to eliminate blindness and vision problems caused by untreated cataracts.

UP to implement biometric system for food distribution

To check misuse of food supplies at Anganwadi and Mini-Anganwadi centres, Uttar Pradesh government has decided to implement a biometric system for food distribution under the Supplementary Nutrition Scheme. The proposal for ‘poshahar’ distribution through Aadhaar-based ePOS machines has been approved by the cabinet. This project will provide food to children between six months to six years, pregnant/lactating women and adolescent girls aged between 14 and 18.

Grant of 18.22 crore assigned for transplant centre at RML Institute of Medical Sciences

Uttar Pradesh government has approved renovation of Lucknow‘s Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences. The main building of the institute will now house a kidney, liver, and bone marrow transplantation centre on the sixth and seventh floors.

A total budget of ₹18.22 crore has been allocated for the project, of which the first instalment of 4.55 crore has been authorised.

Applications at Lucknow University open for BTech, BPharm, and MCA Programmes

Lucknow University has initiated the application process for the B.Tech, B.Pharm and MCA courses. Candidates eligible to apply for admission can visit the official website of the university to register.

According to the guidelines issued, candidates applying must have cleared their CUET UG, PG, and JEE Main entrance exams. According to the schedule available on the official website, the last date for candidates to apply is September 7, 2023. 

Ahead of festival season, exams, section 144 imposed in Lucknow till Oct 30

In wake of the upcoming festive season and various examinations that will take place this month, Commisioner of Police, Law and Order (Lucknow) has imposed Section 144 in Lucknow to avoid any untoward incident. Along with this, travel restrictions will also be issued in various areas.

The order is effective from September 1 till October 30, 2023. In the notification, it has also been mentioned that no shooting by drone will be allowed within one km range of government offices and the Vidhan Sabha during this period.
