SGPGI in Lucknow plans to launch air ambulance services by November 2021

India's first hi-tech tele ICU facility will be established at the SGPGIMS

In a bid to promote an advanced medical infrastructure in Lucknow, the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute (SGPGI) has announced the launch of air-ambulance services by November 2021. As per reports, the PGI Director, Dr RK Dhiman, elaborated on this proposition at the 26th convocation of the institute on Friday. The facility will help in the transfer of critical patients from one medical institute to another, in case of emergency, he informed.

The SGPGI in Lucknow is the only medical institute in Uttar Pradesh that has been accredited with the NABHG recognition and will thus assist in operating the ICUs at six institutes in the state. PGI has also initiated the process of operating a Tele ICU system, pegged to be the first of its kind in the entire country. The provision will assist to monitor the functioning of about 200 beds at the 6 state centres. An e-office will commence operations from September 1, stated the Director.

PGI has already given a statement of its excellence with the launch of robotic surgery here, stated the institute director. Plans are also underway to station more than 500 beds in other departments of the hospital facility, including emergency medicine, nephrology. A dedicated Diabetes centre will also be set up here. This unit will encapsulate all facilities for the treatment of diabetes and related diseases, under one roof.
