Lucknow SGPGI to start offering specialized healthcare services

Out of all the cancer patients in the state, 21% of the cases are of head and neck cancer.

Offering round-the-clock health services in Lucknow, the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) has been the backbone of medical care in the city. Catering to thousands of patients in a day, SGPGI still lacks in some areas.

In a bid to ensure affordable and better medical services for all, Lucknow's SGPGI, during its 96th governing body meeting, announced the inclusion of three new medical departments.

These departments are head and neck surgery, pediatric endocrinology and infectious disease & vaccine research departments.

Specialised treatment: Need of the hour

Reportedly, out of all the cancer cases detected in the state, over 21% of cases are of head and neck cancer. These new departments will be very significant, considering the frequency of throat cancer, and pediatric complications. With the recent COVID pandemic, a research wing is of utmost importance.

The state witnesses a large number of cases of children with stunted growth and malnutrition. The pediatric endocrinology department will cater to areas of growth in children.

Director SGPGIMS Professor Radha Krishna Dhiman

SGPGI is considered to be one of the best hospitals in the country, however, the consistent development in technology, hospital standards, and modern treatment are still somewhat lacking here. With these new departments, the state will have numerous long-term benefits catering to modern-day healthcare needs.

With changing times, health needs have also changed. The new infectious diseases and vaccine development dept at SGPGIMS will exclusively handle infectious diseases like Swine Flu, Japanese Encephalitis, viral hepatitis and COVID.
