The waste management system in Lucknow will witness an upgrade, with the introduction of underground smart bins. These special containers are installed at a depth of about 7 feet. Once full, they will be lifted with the help of hydraulic machines and thereafter, a garbage cart will be deployed for transporting them to the designated plants. Based on the spring technology, these underground smart bins are already being used in Delhi, Mumbai and Surat.
New bins to be set up at 20 promiment locations in the city
In the initial phase, underground smart bins will be installed at 20 major locations in the city, including Charbagh Station, Charbagh Bus Stand, SGPGIMS, Hazratganj, Polytechnic crossing and Bhootnath market. Depending upon the observations of this pilot project, the smart bins will be set up at 20 more intersections in the city.
Further, the municipal officials have planned to construct these bins at all the intersections of each zone. Taking a step further, the project has been sancitioned by the Municipal Commissioner Ajay Kumar Dwivedi.
Top qaulity bins to assure no leakage while transportation
Environmental Engineer Pankaj Bhushan informed that the installation work will be started soon, in a bid to upgrade the city’s waste disposal infrastructure. Notably, each of the aforementioned intersections will have two bins- one green and one blue.
According to the available information, a two-meter wide and 7 feet deep pit will be dug and an iron container equipped with a hydraulic system will be inserted in it. After it is filled, the bin will be lifted by the municipal garbage vehicle with the help of a pipe. Additionally, it has been informed that garbage bins will be built in such a way, that it doesn’t lead to any leakage during transportation.
