Finals of Syed Modi International 2022 to take place in Lucknow on January 23

The ongoing international badminton competition is taking place at the Babu Banarasi Das Stadium in Lucknow

The finale of the ongoing Syed Modi International 2022 is scheduled to take place on January 23 at the Babu Banarasi Das Stadium in Lucknow. Notably, this international level badminton competition was started on 18 January. After registering a win on Wednesday, Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu and the Indian Open finalist Supanida Katethong from Thailand are set to clash in the quarter-finals. The top seed Sindhu won the campaign opener by dismissing Tanya Hemanth in a one-sided match. While the match started with a tie at 5-5 in the opening stage, the former world champion continued to dominate the game and sealed the contest with a score of 21-9, 21-9 in 27 minutes. With this win, Sindhu has now advanced to the second round of the 2022 Syed Modi International in the women's singles. The two-time Olympic medalist, Sindhu is set to play the match against USA's Lauren Lam in the round of 16 now.

Apart from this, in a 28-minute clash, Russia's fifth seed Evgeniya Kosetskaya defeated India's shuttler Vaidehi Choudhari by scoring 21-16, 21-10. Top Indian players HS Prannoy, Aakarshi Kashyap along with the pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila proceeded to the second round of the competition on Tuesday as well.

With the rise in COVID cases, many players including Indian as well as international contestants had to withdraw from this competition owing to the infection. Some players were forced to quit the tournament for being the primary contact of those affected by COVID as well.
