Lucknow to enforce strict no-parking rules with towing drive; details
After announcing a plan to implement paid night parking in 17 cities, including Lucknow and Kanpur, the Uttar Pradesh government is now targeting illegal roadside parking to curb traffic congestion. In Lucknow, the Municipal Corporation has resumed its anti-encroachment drive after a three-year hiatus.
A private contractor is set to take charge of towing illegally parked vehicles from next month. The tender for the project was floated on May 8 and will be opened on May 15, with the final selection likely to be completed within a month.
As per the new policy, violators will face fines of ₹1,500 for four-wheelers, ₹500 for three-wheelers, and ₹300 for two-wheelers. The collected penalties will be shared among the contractor (50%), the corporation (30%), and the traffic police (20%). Each of the city’s eight zones will be equipped with three cranes, targeting high-traffic areas like Hazratganj, Alambagh, Bhootnath Bazaar, and Lulu Mall.
