Lucknow is gearing up to welcome a full-scale naval-themed museum. The Navy Shaurya Museum, currently under construction, is set to become one of India’s most distinctive cultural landmarks. Designed in the shape of a ship, this project promises to bring the story of India’s maritime might to a landlocked state.

Navy Shaurya Museum

The Navy Shaurya Museum will be unlike any other in the region. Built to resemble a modern naval ship, complete with portholes, railings and observation decks, it will celebrate the nation’s maritime heritage through a blend of architecture, technology and storytelling.

At its centre will stand two major attractions: the INS Gomati Shaurya Smarak and the Nausena Shaurya Vatika. INS Gomati (F-21) is a Godavari-class missile frigate that served the Navy for 34 years. It will be permanently preserved on-site, giving visitors the opportunity to walk its decks and learn about historic operations such as Operation Cactus and Operation Parakram. Nearby, the Nausena Shaurya Vatika will showcase a TU-142 aircraft and a Sea King SK-42B helicopter. The garden will also include open-air exhibits, thematic walkways and energy-efficient features.

Further, the museum will feature 7D theatres and immersive digital recreations, including a reimagining of submerged Dwarka, the fabled city beneath the sea. A marine aquarium, digital galleries and participatory zones like ‘Dress Like Your Heroes’ for children and young visitors.

A new wave of cultural projects

On Thursday, authorities reviewed progress on two upcoming museum projects in Uttar Pradesh, the Navy Shaurya Museum in Lucknow and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum in Agra. Both are designed as dynamic experience centres, where visitors can immerse themselves in history.
