Lucknow University to run educational programmes via digital means

In line with the central government's e-vidya initiative, Lucknow University has decided to undergo a major virtual makeover. As per reports, the LU Vice-Chancellor Professor Alok Kumar Rai and other senior teachers will lay down the plan of action for developing a digital programme, which will facilitate students in remote areas with quality education. The programme will consist of an e-lab, virtual lab, e-content and independent TV channels among others.

Lucknow University, an apex institute of higher studies in the city will contribute significantly to the centre's initiative of building a Digital University. While the coronavirus pandemic has already altered the constructs of the education system, the e-upgrade with contemporary amenities is a big step into a new era of modern learning.

The institute is also working to create more quality e-content and provisions to implement the concept of the digital classroom, with digital teachers. The varsity is also working to create a functional model of virtual labs for students. As per reports, the LU teachers have been assigned the responsibility to draft the proposals for the same.

Alongside other digital initiatives, the university is also set to house an Intellectual Property Cell (IPC). The cell will cater to the needs of assessing the credibility of the e-content, created, implemented and operated by the university under its digital programme.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alok Kumar Rai highlighted that Lucknow University is one of the first colleges to adopt the new education policy (NEP) for the benefit of students. Additionally, the VC has reportedly been given the responsibility to implement the same in other states too.

What is a Digital University under e-vidya programme?

As per the centre's e-vidya initiative, a digital university is a web of several major universities in India that will initiate digital programmes using modern teaching techniques. Such universities will work as a distribution centre and the students will be the last thread connecting to these centres. These universities will be set up as per the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) standards.

The scheme is aimed at providing quality educational courses to students in remote areas of the country. These courses will consist of technical, professional and management courses among others.
