In an attempt to offer a viable learning environment to students, Lucknow University has come up with Karmaoday, a new internship programme for its students. In line with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this unpaid scheme aims to offer experiential learning for students enrolled in the university. Notably, this scheme has been initiated by the university administration on the demand of students who weren’t eligible for the ongoing ‘Karmyogi’ scheme.

According to the press release, the minimum internship duration for this scheme is 50 days in an academic session. With a maximum of 2 hours a day, the working hours shall be divided evenly over a period of two months for all assistants. According to the officials, the maximum duration of this in-house internship is one semester.
Unlike the Karmyogi scheme, students enrolled in the final year or pre-final year bachelor’s or master’s course can apply for this programme irrespective of their financial background. Those who have passed the last examination with a minimum of 60% marks in regular or self-finance courses of LU are eligible to apply for this internship. At least 75% attendance in previous academic sessions is a must for enrollment in this scheme.

Notably, this scheme has been developed with a student-centric approach to focus on the development of capabilities and skills among students. Proposed to be initiated for students of all departments, this in-house internship will help students experience the functioning of a real workplace by offering a hands-on learning experience.
Upon the completion of this internship, the students will be awarded a certificate of experience stating the work that has been accomplished by them. Additionally, with the help of this scheme, students will be able to enhance their skills and develop better work ethics.
