Lucknow is set to get a new green space, Namo Van, along the banks of the Gomti River at Ghaila Ghat. The project, with an investment of ₹15 crore, was inspected by Mayor Sushma Kharkwal on Thursday. Spread across 13.41 acres, this ecological and recreational park aims to enhance the city’s green cover while offering a healthy space for residents.
Namo Van aims for urban ecological balance
Namo Van will feature a butterfly garden, jogging track, bamboo structures, a bird-friendly garden, and an open gym. The park’s educational centres will teach visitors about trees and ecological cycles. One of the standout features will be a natural cafeteria, designed with grass-based seating for a garden-like dining experience, serving organic and local food products.
The park’s urban forest will be developed using the Miyawaki method of plantation, with 1,31,250 saplings planted, primarily long-lived species. The mayor emphasised that Namo Van will be a model of urban ecological balance, benefiting future generations with cleaner air and more greenery. This project also commemorates Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday.
