Jagran Film Festival
Lucknow has been telling stories since before cinema existed, over paan, over tea, over three-hour arguments about who insulted whom first. So it’s only fair the city occasionally hosts a festival that tells stories with a camera instead of a monologue. The Jagran Film Festival rolls in with a lineup that spans art-house restraint and full commercial masala, screened for a crowd that already knows how to appreciate a good plot twist. Filmmakers show up, panels happen, and for a few days the city’s favourite pastime gets a proper stage. Bring opinions, this crowd has plenty of its own.

Lucknow will eat mutton at 2am without blinking, but hand this city a piece of raw fish and it suddenly wants a demonstration. Fair enough, the Sushi World Workshop obliges, walking participants through rice, rolls, knife work, and the mild panic of shaping something that’s supposed to look effortless. No prior sushi experience required, just patience for the part where your first roll falls apart. By the end, you’re not exactly a chef, but you can say you’ve handled nori without flinching.

The Reading Room Bookfest

Ishita and Vaishnavi’s workshop, part of September Super Sundays, fixes that properly, footwork, formations, and rhythm broken down step by step instead of learned by awkwardly copying the person next to you at a pandal. No prior dance background needed, just a willingness to get it wrong a few times first. Navratri’s coming, come prepared this time.

Nothing says spiritual immersion like a three-day itinerary, but here we are. Manoj Muntashir’s Krishna-Radha Se Ranbhumi Tak
Most retellings of Krishna stop at the flute and the love story, the comfortable part. Manoj Muntashir’s isn’t interested in stopping there. Krishna-Radha Se Ranbhumi Tak tracks the full arc, from Radha’s love straight through to the battlefield, using storytelling, music, and theatre to cover the distance between devotion and duty. It’s less a retelling and more a reminder that the story everyone knows has a much heavier back half. Muntashir’s known for words that land hard, this one’s built entirely on that strength.

Mishmash Festive Gala
“Independent brand” usually conjures a small stall and a hand-painted sign. Mishmash Festive Gala has other plans, luxury festive wear, designer outfits, jewellery, accessories, and lifestyle products, all from independent labels that have clearly stopped being small a while ago. It’s the festive shopping list condensed into one stop, minus the mall crowd and plus a curation that actually knows what “luxury” is supposed to mean this season. Come with a budget in mind. An evening of timeless kalaams, poetry, and the kind of stillness that doesn’t come from a candle or a hashtag, just from people who know how to sit with a verse and let it work. No rush to the next song, no algorithm deciding what plays next. Just kalaam after kalaam, and whatever peace shows up on its own.
