In a bid to streamline vehicular movement at Lucknow’s Charbagh Railway Station, city authorities have formulated a comprehensive plan. As part of this initiative, the parking infrastructure around the station will be improved to reduce congestion.
Three exit routes will be reopened to address ongoing parking challenges to ensure systematic vehicular movement towards the parking area. Although these routes were originally in place, they had been closed and later encroached upon. Efforts are underway to clear these encroachments and restore the routes for smoother vehicular exits.
Measures to address Encroachments and designate routes for vehicular movement
A new plan, developed in collaboration with city authorities and Northern Railways, aims to streamline vehicular movement and resolve long-standing issues at Lucknow’s Charbagh railway station. Key measures under the proposed plan include:

Visitors will not be charged for parking their vehicles for up to ten minutes while accessing the station.

Two additional exits, located near the GRP office and the auto-rickshaw lane, will be reopened. These exits have been blocked due to illegal encroachments. Clearing these routes will facilitate smoother traffic movement while reducing congestion.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) has been tasked to remove illegal encroachments, including shops operating dangerously close to the station building. These shops reportedly use commercial gas cylinders in open areas, posing a significant safety risk.

Private cabs, using the cabway route at Lucknow Junction, managed by the North Eastern Railway, are charged heightened fees for parking and operation. This long-standing issue has been a source of regular disputes, and authorities have been urged to resolve it promptly.
